Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone!

I'm sitting in the office at work in New Zealand at the moment listening to Christmas songs and looking out over the harbour and the gorgeous sunshine, it just seems totally strange!

So to recap over the last year, as it seems to be the thing to do at this time of year.

2007 has been a busy year. I've been doing lots of travel, sports and plenty of craft!.
Last year I took up spinning, knitting, and tatting. I acquired my first working
spinning wheel.in January. (It's all about sleeping beauty people!). I picked it up in Leeds, while visiting Sar, it was interesting trying to get the wheel into my car to take it home to Devon. I love it, but I’ve not yet managed to knit anything from my own hand spun yarn though. I think that will be a challenge for the future.

In January Mom and I took up Scottish country dancing. I had thought that I was reasonably fit, until then. It's mortifying to be lying on the floor in an exhausted heap at the feet of a group of 60-80 year olds, who are all laughing hysterically at me for my lack of stamina! However, I persevered and enjoyed it. I continued running with the Plymouth harriers and took part in the Plymouth half marathon for the second time this year. I have no need to do that again. Though I'm sure that I remember saying that after the first one!

During the summer Hayley, one of my friends, and I decided to have a go at kayaking. We both got very, very wet, but had a great time doing it. I enjoyed it so much that I hope to do some more of it this summer.

Mom and Dad decided to celebrate Dad's retirement with a round the world trip at the beginning of the year with stops in LA, New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore, before arriving home in time for Easter. In July Mom and Sar flew to New York, Dad flew to Toronto and I flew to Ottawa, to meet up for my uncle's memorial service in Canada. It was a really lovely affair. It was of course an emotional occasion, but we were lucky enough to see lots of family members, and had a wonderful meal along with lots and lots of photos on display of my uncle through the years. I just wish that my uncle could have been there to see how many people were there to remember him. As Uncle Al would have said “Awww Shit!”

In September I headed out to New Zealand. It was either a case of grow up and think about trying to find a place to try and buy, or to go travelling...The plan is to be away for 18 months or so. I should be back in the UK, ready to grow up and get a proper job again in time for my 29th birthday. I'd love to see anyone who plans to be down here in the next 15 months or so. I'm planning to be in Auckland till the beginning of March but after that I hope to head to the south island. If you want to see what I've been up to you can check up on me, and please leave a comment on my blog at

All my love,

Sueby
