a fathom (6 ') of booties

There seems to be something in the air at the moment. One of my cousins has just had twins, and another friend is also expecting her fisrt baby. Of course I have to celebrate these new arrivals some how, and what better way is there then by makeing them a pair of hand knit booties each...I would have made a cute little cardigan for each, but that would have taken too long to make 3 and I didn't have enough white yarn!

The yarn is (i have to confess) 100% acrylic - but as most people seem to be of the oppinion that you don't really want to be faffing about with delicate hand wash items when trying to deal withall of the chaos and (terrifying) responsibilities of a brand new child, and in my cousins case, they already have a little girl, so having 3 young children to deal with at the same time.... well it all seems a little daunting to me! I just hope that if I ever find my self having kids, I have wash and wear clothes for all family members for the first 3 years at least!

The pattern was a fabulously simple but (i hope) effective one. I couldn't get the right row gauge though, so I modified it slightly, cast on 48 st, knit 2" cast of 11 st at the start of the next 2 rows, knit 1.5" cast of 1 st at each end of the following row, knit 2 together for 2 rows, break yarn and thread through remaining 6 stitches.

The booties are wonderful. I remember I had to knit a pair of booties for my Home Economics class in grade 10 and was struggling with them when an angel (in the form of Aunt Loreen) came for a visit at 320 McKay St. Hearing of my problem, she promptly knit one of the booties for me and I knit the other so I could hand them in on Monday. As I recall I got a B which highly insulted Aunt Loreen because she was such a good knitter (disfigured fingers and all) but I think the teacher suspected something (because one of them was beautiful and the other was quite rough). I guess I should be thankful for the B. Anyway, we haven't seen our twin babies yet but both are home now and doing so well. Patti and Matt are doing it all on their own and managing quite well. Can't wait to see them. Headed to Pembroke towards the end of September as Bob is turning 70 so want to have a visit with him. Hope all is well with you. Talk to you soon. Keep knitting. Love to all. Well done. I have ripped out the matinee coat I am making or trying to make for the third time. This next cast on will be the last, I am going to have to knit looser because wait for it I have to purl 15st together!! will try again tonight might even result in pulling the stitches through with a crochet hook. I hope it works because it is such a pretty pattern. Heard you have visited Hayley & baby Sean, hope you had lots of cuddles from him.
