An exercise in frustration

Last Saturday I went to the I Knit day in London. It was a fun day, with various stalls, speakers, and designers all taking part. The main attraction for the day though was Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (aka The Yarn Harlot) who gave a great talk.
Waiting to hear the Yarn Harlot talk

Emma and I meeting the Yarn Harlot, (I'm holding are first ever socks - the most comfortable ones I've ever owned)

Part of the knitted gingerbread house - yes that life sized cabinet is knitted!

For a while now I've wanted to have a go at lace knitting, so my main objective, (other then listening to the Stephanie) was to find a pattern for a relatively simple piece of lace knitting, as well as some yarn for it. It's some lovely cobweb yarn of some kind - don't ask me exactly what as I have no idea! As I do not have all the gadgets and gizmo's available, this meant that I had to wind the yarn the old-fashioned lo-tech method! I don't mind doing that with most yarns, but the light-weight stuff... there's like 1000 yards of the stuff! it was a long time!!!

The pattern I found is a gorgeous Knitwitches pattern for falling leaves lace scarf.

Now this is the first time that I've ever tried to knit lace, so i figured it was best to take it slowly, and carefully.

So this is how I spent Friday afternoon

cast on 1: Completed row 1 of pattern successfully. Completed 2nd row, 3rd row realise that I had the wrong number of stitches for the pattern.

Cast on 2: half way through row 1 - dropped needle and therefore about a 1/2 dozen stitches.

Cast on 3: read the pattern properly and realised that I was supposed to knit for 3 rows before starting the lace pattern!!!!

Cast on 4: got to Row 7 and screwed up some how, so in trying to undo to try and figure out what I'd done wrong, and dropped a stitch, no way in hell of picking it up even if I could figure out where I'd managed to drop the bloody thing!

Cast on 5: Knit the 3 plain rows and quit to have dinner!
