Hey all,
Well, Cat and I are still in Whangarai, and today felling just a touch (hugely) hung over! Yesterday was the birthday of one of the other guys here at the hostel, this meant that last night we had to go out and help him celebrate... and boy did we ever celebrate! hopefully later today we're going to head to the beach for a little recuperation!
We are currently earning our livings as Avocado packers! so next time you're in the supermarket check out those avocados! I have seen more avocados in the last 2 weeks then I ever have before in my life! The perk is getting the odd free one, the down side is that I'm not sure that I can face eating any of them! the other problem is that the avocados are very hard! I now have bruises on my hands from the darned things falling on my hands as they come off the conveyor belt! It's a hazardous job!
I'm finding the whole season flip thing a little hard to get a handle on... It's the whole there are lambs in the fields in October thing... very odd.
I've also tried some of the local foods, including fresh kina, (sea urchins) I'll add pictures of them later. quite sweet, but also very salty, (that may have had something to do with the fact that we rinsed them in the sea before eating them! I've also had fresh battered scallops! delicious, but, how on earth you can take something that is as ridiculously expensive, and as amazingly tasty as scallops, and batter them, and sell them in a fish and chip shop... well they were very good!
Anyway the beach (and more aspirin) are calling me, so I'll chat more later, (hopefully with pictures too)
Love Sueby
